Austerity Kills – my song and video about how the cuts agenda of the ConDem government costs lives

I wrote the following lyrics to an original Fruity Frank and the Frisky Freaks song called “Austerity Kills” in December 2013:

We need unity
Not austerity
No ifs, no buts
Stop all the cuts
Except Trident of course
And perhaps the armed forces

We can choose eating
Or we can choose heating
With high energy bills
Austerity kills

When it gets cold
Unite young and old
With high energy bills
Austerity kills

Those on the right
Oppose our fight
And ignore our plight
Unite black and white

The problem is not immigration
Welcome foreigners’ integration
Into British society
Don’t make their life a misery

Blame the rich not poor
No to another war

It’s rich bankers who are mainly to blame
Our rebelliousness they want to tame
Tories must think the masses are twits
Trying to blame people on benefits

In “Nineteen Eighty-Four”
World fascism Orwell foresaw
We correctly hate
The surveillance state
Big brother is watching you
He opposes revolution too

We need unity
Not austerity
No ifs, no buts
Stop the cuts!

Watch a music video for this track, that I produced and uploaded this week, on YouTube (if you can):

If you want to share the video on a social networking site or embed it within a web page (like I did on this blog), go to the page for the video on YouTube. You can alternatively share the whole of this post via another WordPress blog, Twitter or Facebook by clicking on a link at the bottom of this blog entry (before the comments). I don’t expect the video to go viral, but it could get quite a large number of views…

If you have problems with YouTube (due to censorship or bandwith problems), try listening to the track on SoundCloud. You can find all tracks by the band Fruity Frank and the Frisky Freaks at http://soundcloud.com/fruity-frank.

I have recently revamped the Fruity Frank website, containing details of our original tracks and the computer game Fruity Frank that motivated the name of the band, and I wrote in the mid-1980s for Amstrad and MSX platforms (with graphics designed by my brother Sean). There is a link to a page which uses a Java emulator, making it straightforward to play on a web browser without the risk of your computer catching a virus!
